Methods of data processing in modern control systems

The scientific school of the Academician of the Russian Academy of sciences of E.A.Fedosov has developed in 1970-1980 on the basis of development of problems of data processing in complex dynamic control systems for special objects. Within the framework of scientific school such leading specialists have grown in the field of control processes and data processing as Corresponding member of Russian Academy of Science G.G. Sebryakov, professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Stefanov V.A., professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Insarov V.V., professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences S.Yu. Zheltov. The recognized leader is the Academician of Russian Academy of Science E.A. Fedosov, whose merits in development of control problems and data processing are marked by a number of Government Awards.

In 1970-1980 in connection with creation of a new generation onboard special systems a number of new high technology problems of data processing in complex fields of various physical nature have appeared. Further, with development of means of digital data processing and appearance of new high-resolution sensors of the information, the sphere of scientific interests of school shifted to problems of processing and analysis of images, detection of model objects in images in complex noise conditions.

One of the important problems arising in the given domain, is the problem of operative preparation of flying missions of flight vehicles which in turn dictates necessity of creation of methods of automated construction of computer models of objects and scenes of the real world, three-dimensional reconstruction and analysis of three-dimensional scenes.

The further progress of methods of computer vision and the requirement to automate processes of data processing demands the solution of problems of control over complex technical and robotic systems on the basis of a complex data processing from sensors of various physical nature.

From the moment of origin of Academician E.A. Fedosovs scientific school it was focused on solution of particular applied problems at development of fundamental bases of problems of data processing and construction of technological approaches that were further realized in particular physical devices on the basis of modern computer facilities.

The urgency of the studied problems is confirmed by implementation of the developed methods in particular technical and technological developments. The most significant applications of the developed methods are created in interests of the defense industry - control and guidance systems of special objects, target recognition systems in the given conditions, including in complex noise conditions. The scientific school conducted in-deep development of problem of robotic methods creation of data processing in conditions of great variability. An essential step in development of such methods was usage of three-dimensional representations of scenes and objects for control and navigation.

The significant contribution of scientific school are:

  • Development of correlation and quasi-correlation methods of data processing about physical fields for control of special flight vehicles;

  • Development of hybrid methods of control for systems with random parameters and random structure;

  • Development of methods of the detection based on the analysis of characteristic features of physical fields;

  • Development of methods of image analysis with usage of model (including three-dimensional) descriptions.

During the last years the important direction of researches of scientific school is development of methods of data processing from multi-sensor systems that allows to solve problems of control in complex noise conditions. Development of methods of data processing of stereoscopic systems of computer vision has allowed to increase robustness and reliability of control systems. A number of developments conducted in the world was stimulated by researches of our scientific school. These are such as system development of machine stereo vision for intelligent transport systems, development of automatic identification systems on the basis of image processing, systems of contactless videometric measurements for medical applications, fast creation of prototypes.

At present the goal of researches of scientific school is development of methods of computer vision to solve problems of pattern recognition and image processing, detection of model objects on images in complex noise conditions, methods of the automated construction of computer models of objects and scenes of the real world, three-dimensional reconstruction and analysis of three-dimensional scenes, control over complex technical and robotic systems on the basis of complex processing of data from sensors of various physical nature.

The scientific school conducts development of principles of technical vision construction for various applied problems, such as navigating and guidance, high-precision measurement of parameters of parts of the observed scene, tracking objects, three-dimensional reconstruction of the observed scene and detection of the given three-dimensional structures in it. The school conducts and carries out researches on development  of numerical - analytical and numerical methods of deformation mechanics of solid-state bodies, approaches to numerical - analytical and numerical models of composite shells mechanics, methods of optimization of inhomogeneous materials, structures and systems.

Specialists of scientific school are the center of the collective that executes projects in priority directions of the Federal target program National technological basis (section Technology of information systems). The scientific school introduces the essential contribution to fulfilment of some federal target programs and grants of the Russian fund of basic researches (RFFI) and Ministry of Education.

Work of leading members of the scientific school is marked by the State awards and premiums. The Academician of the Russian Academy of Science Fedosov E.A. is awarded with the Lenin and State premium, awarded with Academician B.N. Petrov medal; Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science Sebryakov G.G. - with the Academician B.N. Petrov Premium.

The collective of scientific school is the stable and steady formation, united by strongly pronounced leader - Academician E.A. Fedosov. Under his guidance the following specialists became outstanding scientists: Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science Sebryakov G.G., professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Zheltov, who, in turn, conduct scientific guidance over new perspective post-graduate students and junior specialists.

The scientific school has deserved recognition in Russia and abroad. International conferences conducted by the school testify to it, such as conference on computer vision under presidency of Academician Fedosov E.A. (1995), invitation of leading members of school to present their plenary reports on the analysis of a current state of problems of computer vision at such international forums as IFAC Symposium (St. Petersburg, 2002), XVIII (Vienna, 1996) and XIX (Amsterdam, 2000) Congresses of  ISPRS (International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sounding). Members of scientific school participate in activity of international workgroups on problems of computer vision of international societies SPIE (International society on Optical Engineering), ISPRS, IFAC.
